large draining vein located in the midline, at the top of the head.
This is essential to draining blood from a large portion of the brain,
and generally, cannot be sacrificed at surgery. Meningiomas
in the region can occasionally grow through the sagittal sinus and
occlude it, in which case the sinus can be taken during surgery. |
