stereotactic radiosurgery

The focused delivery of a large amount of radiation to an area of the brain.  This may be used to treat brain tumors, blood vessel malformations (arteriovenous malformations: AVM's), and trigeminal neuralgia.  There are several devices used, but the main units are either the Gamma Knife, or another device which uses a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) which most hospitals have in their radiation oncology department.
