represent tumors of the "paraganglion cells" and are generally
slow growing and benign. The most common ones are carotid body
tumors, which are located in the neck and derive blood supply from
the carotid arteries (and other arteries). Surgical removal
carries a high complication rate. Other types of paragangliomas
are glowmus jugulare tumors, and glomus tympanicum tumors. These
grow at the skull base and at the middle ear. |
