myelography

Myelography, or a myelogram, is used to look at the nerve roots and spinal cord.  A spinal tap is performed, and dye (which shows on x-ray) is instilled into the spinal canal (with the spinal fluid).  X rays and a CT scan of the spine then show the outlines of the nerve roots and spinal cord.  This will help to see discs and tumors, as well as nerve root compression.
