order to obtain cerebrospinal fluid for analysis, or in order to perform
a myelogram, generally, a lumbar puncture is performed. This
is a procedure where the physician places a needle into the dura (covering
of the spinal cord) in the lumbar spine to obtain access to the cerebrospinal
fluid. It is generally done using a local anesthetic. |
