glioma
Tumors of the "connective tissue" of the brain.  These include astrocytomas, ependymomas, and oligodendrogliomas.  Although complete surgical removal would be ideal, it can only infrequently be accomplished, because of the infiltrative nature of many of these tumors.  These tumors can range in malignancy from relatively benign to extremely agressive.  Often chemotherapy and radiation therapy are use in addition to open surgery.
