technique involves the placement of an electrode catheter or a stimulator
paddle on the back of the spinal cord (in the cervical or thoraco-lumbar
area), to attempt to diminish upper or lower extremity pain.
This pain may be due to chronic nerve root injury or reflex sympathetic
dystrophy (a peripheral nerve injury which results in chronic burning
