fractures of the cervical spine are not stable. These can be
temporarily stabilized (until the patient is taken to surgery or has
a halo placed), by placing the patient in traction. Generally,
Gardener-Wells traction is used, and under local anesthetic,
two small pins are applied to the skull, one on each side of the head. |
